Is Donald Sterling owner of the NBA Clippers a Racist?

There’s so much that could be said from me about this story but, instead I’ll share TMZ post with you today. Why doesn’t this surprise me about some wealthy people?

L.A. Clippers owner Donald Sterling told his GF he does NOT want her bringing black people to his games … including Magic Johnson … and it’s ALL on tape.

TMZ Sports has obtained audio of Sterling making the racist declaration during a heated argument on April 9th with V. Stiviano … after she posted a photo on Instagram posing with Magic.

Sterling rails on Stiviano — who ironically is black and Mexican — for putting herself out in public with a black person (she has since taken the pic down). But it doesn’t end there. You have to listen to the audio to fully grasp the magnitude of Sterling’s racist worldview. Among the comments:

“It bothers me a lot that you want to broadcast that you’re associating with black people. Do you have to?”

— “You can sleep with [black people]. You can bring them in, you can do whatever you want. The little I ask you is not to promote it on that … and not to bring them to my games.”

— “I’m just saying, in your lousy Instagrams, you don’t have to have yourself with, walking with black people.”

— “…Don’t put him [Magic] on an Instagram for the world to have to see so they have to call me. And don’t bring him to my games.”

Sterling has a documented history of allegedly racist behavior — he’s been sued twice by the federal government for allegedly refusing to rent apartments to Blacks and Latinos.

He was also sued by former Clippers exec Elgin Baylor for racial discrimination — though a jury was ultimately not convinced and shot down Baylor’s case.

Sterling has been separated from his wife Shelly for years. She remains a key player in running the team and sources tell us she’s “mortified” by Sterling’s comments.

We have made several calls to Sterling and his people … so far, no word back.

  1. From Cody from FaceBook: I still can’t see this as being true..Can’t wait till they actully get into it..Because how the heck are you racist when your Girl is mixed,You own a basketball team where your coach is African American,I’m not gonna count but it has to be at least half your team is either mixed are African American. Now if he owned a hockey team and this came out then maybe it would be easier for me to say yea racist lol..But can’t wait to see what all comes out…

  2. I want to see what else could come out about this story as well Cody. But I must say, this isn’t the first time Donald Sterling has made African Americans uncomfortable on the ball court. He has a ugly history in regards to racist comments. And you can have African Americans play for you all you want no matter if Mexican, black or white Sterling is wealthy and most likely see people or any culture as a business transaction. Most owners or wealthy people feel another way behind closed doors. Don’t let them fool you. I believe its him on the audio for sure.

  3. Sharon posted this from Face Book: Brandon this would be a great topic for your blog. People believe what they believe, just as no one can turn you against Christ because it is what you were taught; others cannot turn against their teachings. Christ is Perfect, because of him, we are allowed to make mistakes and/ or be ignorant of what is not in our comfort zone.

  4. That’s a valid point Auntie. Lord help me with the things I can’t change. Donald Sterling is free to feel the way he wants, after all it’s his prerogative. I’m not tring to pass judgement. It just behoves me to think that he can’t find a better way to express himself being an owner of a predominantly African American team. That’s just bad business. I find this story funny and sad all at the same time. I actually posted this story to my blog and your comment. Thanks.
